Building skills

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Cole Fitzgerald, 4, and Chase Mason Hodges, 5, work together to build a train track in the preschool classroom at the Sikeston Kindergarten Center. The Sikeston Kindergarten, Early Childhood Center and Parents as Teachers program will have their annual birth to 4 years screening. All children from birth to 4 years in the Sikeston school district can attend this free screening, which will be Feb. 6-9, at the Kindergarten Center at 1310 E. Salcedo Road. Hours will be from 8 am-4 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The screening will check vision, dental, hearing, speech and developmental areas. Parents or guardians must bring their child's immunization record to the screening. This screening determines who attends the 4-year-old Early Childhood program next school year. Children must be screened in order to attend the preschool. If a child is going to be 5 years old by July 31, they will be eligible for kindergarten in the fall. Enrollment for kindergarten will be in May. Please call 471-0653 to make an appointment.
