SIKESTON - Cycling continues to grow in popularity in Southeast Missouri and cycle-enthusiast now have a new resource for bicycles, gear and more.

SEMO Cycle opened in January at 1511 S. Main St. For those into cycling, it marks a return of some familiar faces to the past time -- Tony Sloan and Jill Freshour Sloan.

While Sloan continues to operate Sloan Radiator Repair, SEMO Cycle represents a return to an interest he said he has always had.

Mrs. Sloan grew up around her parent's Sikeston business, Freshour Cycle. Sloan later joined in helping out at the local BMX race track.

"Cycling is in our blood," Mrs. Sloan said.

Sloan said bicycling has always been an activity he loved to share with his wife and children. "We have spent many weekends over the years at BMX race tracks, mountain biking through the woods or participating in organized road rides, but I missed the cycle business," admitted Sloan. The couple talked it over and agreed Sikeston once again needed its own bicycle shop.

SEMO Cycle offers both sales and service of bicycles.

Those in need of a new bicycle can choose from a variety of brands including Raleigh, Diamondback, KHS, Free Agent, DK, Manhattan Cruiser, and others. There is an equally great variety of styles from tricycles for those in need of their first set of wheels to road bikes and mountain bikes as well as the popular cruisers and BMX bikes.
