SHS netters bounced by Jackson, volleyball falls on road

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs tennis team fell to the Jackson Lady Indians 9-0 on Tuesday.

Sikeston was only able to capture two collective points against Jackson in singles competition and three in doubles.

"We were totally outplayed in every aspect of the game today," Sikeston head coach Russ Dial said. "Jackson is a Class 2 team and the difference in classes showed today. "Hopefully we'll do better against Dexter, a Class 1 opponent (today)."

On the junior varsity side, the Lady Bulldogs fell 10-3 to the Lady Indians junior varsity squad.

Sikeston 20-7

BERNIE -- Opening up their season on the road against the Bernie Lady Mules on Tuesday, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs fell in straight sets 25-20, 25-7.

"We were neck-and-neck until the end of the first set," Sikeston head coach Steve Beydler said. "Everybody seemed to come out a little nervous tonight."

Leading the Lady Bulldogs effort Trenice Greer had nine kills, six assists and two blocks on the contest. Courtney Hewitt and Kalli Williams had four and three kills respectively while Lauren Beydler led the team with 14 assists and had two aces.

Other contributors include Alexis Odom with three kills and Ester Chinwuko with two kills.

On the junior varsity side, Sikeston fell 25-20, 25-14 in straight sets.

The Lady Bulldogs will have a long break before playing Saxony Lutheran in their home opener on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.

Dexter 25-25,

Kennett 13-8

KENNETT -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats defeated the Kennett Lady Indians in straight sets Tuesday night, 25-13 and 25-8 at Kennett High School.

Jessica Lindsey led the Lady Bearcats with six kills. She also had two digs.

Hannah Noe and Brittany Harris each had three aces to go along with three and four kills respectively.

Noe led Dexter with seven assists as well while Alyssa Spear added five assists to the Lady Bearcats' total.

Shyann Jines chipped in four digs and two kills and Paige Patterson had two kills, one ace and one dig.

Noe also led the serving points with 11. Spear added eight, Harris had seven and Patterson scored six.

Dexter travels to Jackson High School Thursday for their next game at 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame JV 9, Portageville 6

PORTAGEVILLE -- The Portageville Lady Bulldogs softball team lost 9-6 to the Notre Dame junior varsity team Tuesday at Portageville High School.

The two teams played a second game directly following, which was won by Notre Dame again, 4-1.

This is Portageville's first season as a fall softball team after spending previous years in the spring league.
