CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Leon Joseph "Bud" DuMay, 87, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the home of his son, surrounded by his loving family in St. Peters.

He was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Chaffee, to Leon H. and Alvina Baudendistal DuMay. He and Geneva Gilliland DuMay were married Jan. 15, 1949, in Sikeston. Geneva preceded him in death in September 2009.

Leon served in the 30th "Old Hickory" Infantry during World War II. He fought in two major battles and was awarded numerous honors including the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Tina M.) DuMay of St. Peters, Gary DuMay of Independence and Thomas (Sandra L.) Dumay of Atlanta; two sisters, Martha J. Castleman of St. Louis and LaVerne (Donald) Leible of Farmington; nine grandchildren, Nicole DuMay of St. Charles, Brent DuMay and Chad DuMay, both of O' Fallon, Brandon DuMay of Lake Forrest, Calif., Andrew DuMay of Independence, Nicholas DuMay of Orlando, Fla., Amber DuMay, Brooke DuMay and Taylor DuMay, all of Atlanta; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
