SIKESTON -- The Sikeston junior high wrestling team finished their season Saturday following the Cape Central Junior High Invitational.

Looking back on the season, junior high coach Matt Johnson saw a lot of positives from his young squad.

"I think we wrestled very competitively all year and the kids put in a lot of hard work," he said.

Sikeston finished with 11 wrestlers that had winning records and several that were right around the .500 mark against some of the area's top competition for their age.

Two wrestlers went undefeated for the Bulldogs -- Ty Fowler and Josh Stinnett.

Fowler led Sikeston with a 14-0 record. Stinnett finished 12-0.

Also, Jorge Gonzales ended up with an 11-3 record while seventh grader David Valdez finished 6-4.

"Our program has a bright future as long as these young wrestlers build off their early success," Johnson said. "As their coach, I want to thank the kids for their dedication, the coaching staff for their tireless efforts and all of the parents that supported us."

Although their season is done, the Siketson Bulldogs varsity team will continue Wednesday when they host NMCC at the Sikeston Field House at 5 p.m.
