Scott City pulls the upset, Bravettes knock off Kelly

ORAN -- Led by 17 points from Lyndsie Robert, the seventh-seeded Scott City Lady Rams handed the Chaffee Lady Devils a 45-42 upset in the opening round of the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament.

The Lady Rams came out and outscored Chaffee 19-6 in the first quarter and took a nine-point lead into halftime. The Lady Devils closed to within two pints entering the fourth, but were outscored 11-9 in the final frame as the Lady Rams held on.

Behind Robert, Natalie Woods had 14 points for Scott City and Lindsey Harrell led Chaffee with 11 points. Jordan Pruitt was second on the Lady Devils with 10 points.

Scott City will play third-seed Scott County Central Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the tournament semifinals.

Riding a big second half against sixth-seeded Kelly, third-seeded Scott County Central advanced to the tournament semifinals with a 69-51 win.

The Bravettes held only a two-point advantage going into the break, but outscored the Lady Hawks 24-15 in the third to push ahead by 11. They'd outscore Kelly 20-13 in the fourth to close out the win.

Johniqua Fort led Scott Central with 18 points, followed by Mikaela Blissett with 17 points. Stephanie Worth had a game-high 19 points for the Lady Hawks while Tessa Johnson had 13 points.

Oran 58, East Prairie 54

Using a big run in the third quarter to take the lead, the fifth-seeded Oran Lady Eagles upset the fourth-seeded East Prairie 58-54.

East Prairie took a one-point edge into halftime only to see Oran go on a 16-8 run in third to take a 42-35 lead into the final frame. Oran outscored East Prairie 19-16 in the fourth to hold on for the upset.

Addie Kielhofner had a game-high 20 points for Oran, followed by Taylor Nenninger with 13. Lauren Magee scored 18 points to lead East Prairie and Rebekah Douglas had 14.

Oran will play the winner of Tuesday's Charleston/Delta game on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Dominique Walker led Portageville with 16 points as the Bulldogs defeated Scott City 51-46 Monday at Portageville High School.

A.V. Banks added 10 for Portageville, who found themselves down 28-20 at halftime but rallied to outscore Scott City 31-18 in the second half.

Ryan Brock had 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Rams. Ryan Fortner also scored 14 points. Jonathan McFall tallied 10 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for Scott City.

Sikeston 39, Jackson 32

JACKSON -- The Sikeston 8th grade team defeated Jackson on the road on Monday night, 39-32.

The Bulldogs (4-7) led 10-9 after one quarter and were tied 19-19 at the half. Sikeston took a 29-27 lead into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs were able to hold off the Indians in the fourth quarter.

Sam Cox led Sikeston with 12 points followed by Phayzun Fobbs with 10.

Sikeston's 8th graders will compete in the Cape Central Tournament next Wednesday and Thursday to close out the season.
