City Council discusses flood zones during briefing session

SIKESTON -- Sikeston may seek a second opinion.

The Sikeston City Council agreed during their regular monthly briefing session Monday to meet with a firm specializing in hydrology and hydraulics.

Since receiving the Federal Emergency Management Agency's new flood plain maps, city officials have disputed areas on the ridge -- generally along Salcedo Road between North Main and North Ingram -- being included in flood zones.

Councilman Jon Gilmore said he would like to see the Council explore other options before coming to a decision on proposed flood control projects which should take some areas back out of the flood zones.
