Smith wins popular vote in Scott County

BENTON -- Republican candidate Jason Smith won the majority vote in Scott County Tuesday during the special election of the U.S. representative for Missouri's Eighth Congressional District.
Smith received 2,603 votes followed by Democratic candidate and East Prairie resident Steve Hodges, who received 1,439 votes. Also receiving votes were Constitution Party candidate Doug Enyart with 117 and Libertarian candidate Bill Slantz with 72. There were also four write-in candidates.
These results, which were provided by Scott County Clerk Rita Milam's office, are unofficial.
