Manager search mismanaged

I read in your July 2 newspaper where the city council had voted to contract with Strategic Governmental Resources to help them search for a city manager candidate. The city is committing to spend anywhere from $12,000 to $27,000 dollars for this. My concern is that they should first list this job opening with Missouri Municipal League, and see what kind of qualified applicants they could get before they commit us to this kind of expenditure of taxpayer resources. I urge all the citizens of Sikeston to call their city council members and voice their displeasure at the way this fiasco with our city manager has been handled. The city is lying to us why Mr. Friend resigned. They want to go spend up to $27,000 in recruitment costs before they try to locate a city manager in the Missouri Municipal League. This is wasting taxpayers' money. I urge you to call your council member and let them know. We as citizens deserve to know the truth, and we don't deserve to be mislead.

We want our cornbread

This is a person that likes cornbread. The Nutrition Center always used to have cornbread with their lunches, and we very seldom have it anymore. We asked about it and they say we don't have it because it's not on the menu. Please put it back on the menu so we can have it again. Old folks still like our cornbread. And if we don't eat all of it, we can have it with milk for supper. The bread they have is alright, but old people like cornbread. Please, start serving cornbread again at the Nutrition Center.
