Hayti at Chaffee

Records: Hayti (0-2); Chaffee (2-0)

Series History: Hayti leads 39-23-2

Last Meeting: 2012, Hayti won 32-8

Last Week: Hayti lost to Charleston 34-6; Chaffee defeated St. Pius X 31-14

Outlook: Hayti has defeated the Red Devils 14-straight times but have scored just one touchdown in each of their first two games. Hayti is young, with four freshmen in the starting lineup including quarterback Maurice Farr (6-1, 185) who is sharing time with junior Austin Neisler (5-8, 180) who is trying to return from a collarbone injury. Senior Dylan Riddick (5-10, 205) leads the Indians in rushing but was held to 36 yards last week. Chaffee has had no problem scoring, averaging 45 points per game. They are led by junior signal caller Peyton Montgomery who has thrown for 198 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 158 yards in two games. Jimmy Golden leads the Red Devils with 201 rushing yards while senior Charlie Montgomery rushed for 106 yards last week and also splits time at receiver.

Charleston at Caruthersville

Records: Charleston (1-1); Caruthersville (1-1)

Series History: Charleston leads 44-28-2

Last Meeting: 2012, Caruthersville won 34-12

Last Week: Charleston defeated Hayti 34-6; Caruthersville defeated Malden 32-7

Outlook: One week after gaining just 67 yards against Sikeston, Charleston rebounded with 34 points against Hayti. Still the Bluejay offense hasn't clicked yet, gaining just 186 yards against the Indians in Week 2. Last year's leading rusher senior Robert Bogan has yet to get on track, rushing for just 38 yards on 25 carries this season. Junior Rontavious Clark leads the Bluejay rushing attack so far with 86 yards on 23 carries while quarterback Mike Kellum has completed four passes for 69 yards. Caruthersville gave up 60 points in their first game to state-ranked Liberty-Mountain View but rebounded last week and held Malden to just one touchdown. The Tigers run defense was stingy last week, allowing just 44 yards to the Greenwave but did give up 111 yards through the air while only allowing six first downs. Caruthersville did return a fumble late in the fourth quarter. Offensively, the Tigers are led by senior standout Darrell Monroe who rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns against Malden.

East Prairie at Scott City

Records: East Prairie (1-1); Scott City (0-2)

Series History: Scott City leads 27-25

Last Meeting: 2012, Scott City won 36-0

Last Week: East Prairie defeated Grandview 43-8; Scott City lost to St. Vincent 25-14

Outlook: East Prairie snapped a 19-game losing streak in a big way last week, pounding Grandview 43-8 and the Eagles have scored the same amount of points in two games (55) than they scored all of 2012. Freshman Deverance Jones is making a big impact with five catches this year for 167 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a kick for touchdown last week. The Eagles ran for 307 yards last week and sophomore quarterback Brett Ellis has completed 12 of 20 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns with only one interception. Sophomore Blayn Gooding has rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns while junior Adrian Soto has gained 102 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Scott City has struggled offensively this season with their only scores coming last week. The Rams have had a tough time getting going on the ground, rushing for only 97 yards last week. The young Scott City team has also been plagued by penalties and turnovers. One bright spot is quarterback Braden Cox who threw for 189 yards and a touchdown last week.

NMCC at Kennett

Records: NMCC (0-2); Kennett (1-1)

Series History: NMCC leads 22-6

Last Meeting: 2012, NMCC won 31-7

Last Week: NMCC lost to Sikeston 29-0; Kennett defeated Portageville 26-6

Outlook: NMCC has yet to score in 2013 and last week was held to just 25 total yards. The Eagles have speed in running backs Mikeal Walker (11 carries, 113 yards), Willie Jimmerson (11 carries, 1 yard) and Malik Stevenson (17 carries, 2 yards) but the NMCC offensive line has been porous early in the season. Defensively the Eagles have played well at times, limiting Malden to just 12 points and holding Sikeston in check for much of the game last week. The Indians turned the corner last week against Portageville, earning the first win at Kennett for veteran coach Aaron Pixley. Quarterback Akeem Nelson showed big play ability running for a touchdown and throwing for another. Running back Treyvon Bradford had two touchdowns against Portageville and leads the Indians in rushing. Defensively, Kennett improved from Week 1 and contained the Bulldogs balanced attack, only allowing one touchdown pass early in the second quarter.

Portageville at Malden

Records: Portageville (1-1); Malden (1-1)

Series History: Malden leads 38-28-1

Last Meeting: 2012, Portageville won 22-13

Last Week: Portageville lost to Kennett 26-6; Malden lost to Caruthersville 32-7

Outlook: After scoring 39 points in their opener, Portageville was held to just six points against Kennett last week. Neither the Bulldogs' running game behind Daniel McCray or the passing game behind sophomore quarterback Jon Garrett Kellams could get on track. The only score Portageville could manage was a pass from Kellams to top target Ben Story. Malden has struggled to score this season, only reaching the end zone three times. Sophomore quarterback Chapin Riley has thrown for 129 yards and one touchdown this season while running backs Dremond Robinson and Nick Thompson have rushed for 103 and 76 yards respectively. Defensively, Malden allowed NMCC just 143 yards in Week 1 before giving up 351 last week, 254 on the ground.
