Freedom for all religions

I would like to address a woman's recent letter to the newspaper regarding religious freedom and our country's descent into moral depravity. Our forefathers fought for freedom of religion period, not just the Christian religion. Our forefathers embraced the diversity that existed in our young country and saw it as a great strength. Any suggestion that we somehow protect only the Christian religion and erase diversity within our population is the most un-American thing I've ever heard. Her list of our 21st Century sins are indeed troubling as they were equally troubling in the 1700s, the 1800s and dare I say since the beginning of time. Love our God. Love our children. Respect one another and our world. Why is it necessary to choose which God, which children, who deserves respect and which environment to protect?

Playing both sides

I am amazed that our state representative quoted the Constitution in her last letter in the newspaper as she appears to have no regard for the Constitution when it comes to breaking her oath to uphold it. It's not a smorgasbord. You cannot support bills that are contrary to the Constitution and use that same Constitution later on to justify a different bill. That you broke your oath to uphold the Constitution makes you unfit to keep your job. However, being the politician that you are, I'm sure you will find a way to justify your behavior.

More for their pockets

What makes anyone think that lowering our tax rate in Missouri will miraculously result in more business coming to our state? We already have one of the lowest tax rates in the country, ranking 47th out of the 50 states. Unfortunately, our problems are more complicated than that. Leave it to the wealthiest among us and the politicians supported by those wealthiest to think that giving them more money will solve our problems.

Good values

I just read in the Sept. 12 paper a letter from a lady from Sikeston, Christian values. She is just exactly right. Right on.
