SIKESTON -- When James Whitley arrived at Matthews Elementary School Monday afternoon, he came in a fireman's uniform with a father's heart.

Whitley, a field training officer with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, along with DPS officers Adam Eftink, David Horton, Josh Buhler and Andy Vanover were at the elementary school to talk about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week, Oct 6-12. As the father of five, Whitley said he enjoys being able to spend time with the youngsters but he also wants to get across the importance of knowing what each should do in case of a fire.
