Prep Roundup: Oran takes step toward district title

POPLAR BLUFF -- Aubrianna Jones put the Oran Lady Eagles softball team in the Class 1, District 1 championship game Thursday earning a 3-0 win over Neelyville in Poplar Bluff.

Jones struck out seven in a complete game effort and walked just one.

The offense behind her gave some comfort after scoring two runs in the second inning and another in the third. Tatum May had a double for Oran.

Oran will play for the district title today at 3 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Notre Dame 2, Sikeston 0

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs fell in two sets on the road to Notre Dame Thursday.

Notre Dame cruised to a 25-12, 25-7 win.

Dexter 2, Poplar Bluff 0

DEXTER (SMNS) - The Dexter Bearcats varsity volleyball team extended its winning streak to 11 games Thursday night with a convincing 25-16, 25-11, victory against Poplar Bluff.

The Bearcats tallied 24 kills against Poplar Bluff.

"We took care of business and that's what we wanted to do," Dexter coach Carmen Morgan said. "We missed two serves on game point, which is pretty unacceptable. You get the ball over and in on game point.

Jessica Lindsey led the way for Dexter with 12 kills. Delaney Pullen and Shyann Jines each added five more.

Julia Hahn and Alyssa Spear each had 10 assists for the Bearcats.

Dexter improves to 22-3 with Thursday's victory.
