Down and dirty

I would like to say something about this in-home house cleaning that the government pays for that half the people don't need. I did that for a long time. I got so tired of going in and cleaning up for somebody who had 4 or 5 lazy slobs living there that didn't work or anything. It's okay for people who really need it. You get to a house and clean and clean and then they hit Walmart and stay all day and run around. If they can do that, then they can clean their own house. Just because you've got your mom or dad living with you, that's no sign you need someone to clean your house. The government shouldn't have to pay for all that if you are able to work it out yourself. I can see it for somebody who has cancer or who is in the bed sick, but somebody that can run around all over the country, they can clean their own house.

Ride waves, not horses

I heard that where Bootheel Golf was there is going to be a water park. People in Sikeston are excited about this. I hope it's more like the one in Poplar Bluff where they have batting cages, water rides, miniature golf and stuff like that. We hope this is the plan since there is not a lot for kids and families in Sikeston. We're also hearing about an indoor riding arena. We don't think that's fair because not everyone in Sikeston is involved with horses and stuff like that.

According to Ed Throop, Utility Manager of the Board of Municipal Utilities, "The caller is exactly right on. Anything that can be planned and built for our youth and public use, is on the table. Some of the projects contemplated in a long range plan for Sikeston and the surrounding area are an indoor baseball facility, a large indoor multipurpose building, and possibly a water park. Funding for these projects is not easy, but with the help of private interest and the public, they can happen. Anything you build at the site is not 100 percent fair to everyone, so the City will try to build as much as possible for as many as possible. In the near future, these projects are being contemplated: riding and bike trails, additional soccer fields, public use of the Club House, a covered pavilion that can be used for small concerts, farm shows, races, equine events, and any other event that needs a covered facility. Also, RV spaces with electricity and water are planned for our out of town guests. This acreage has unlimited potential for our youth and public of Sikeston and the surrounding areas. Please support the effort our City is trying to implement."
