CHARLESTON - Prisoners from the Southeast Correctional Center will continue assisting with maintenance projects in Mississippi County

The Mississippi County Commissioners renewed the agreement with SCC during their Thursday meeting to allow state prisoners to take part in a work-release program. The agreement, which must be signed annually, enables the Mississippi County's Highway Department to use the prisoners to assist with projects, primarily cemetery maintenance.

Also during the meeting, commissioners signed a change order dealing with the bridge replacement on County Road 521. The agreement provides a 30-day extension for completing the bridge due to recent inclement weather.

Harwood Automotive was awarded a bid to replace an engine in a Ford Expedition. The vehicle is utilized by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.
