WASHINGTON - On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill met with the Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative to discuss infrastructure funding, improved flood control, maintaining good water quality, and ensuring continued navigation along the Mississippi River--items McCaskill said are critical to the region's economy.

The Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative is a mayoral-led effort to create a coordinated voice for the Mississippi River.

"I continue to look for ways to improve quality of life for Missourians along the Mississippi and protect the jobs that are dependent on access to the river," said McCaskill, a member of the Mississippi River Caucus. "I'm excited to work with this committed group of mayors to achieve our shared goals."

Making Missouri's waterways a priority, McCaskill recently led a successful bipartisan effort calling for the Army Corps of Engineers to expedite the removal of rock formations along the Mississippi River, ensuring continued commercial navigation despite low water levels.

Last year, McCaskill signed onto the bipartisan Mississippi River Caucus, a group seeking to amplify congressional efforts in addressing flood mitigation, encourage commerce along the river, and provide an open forum to address the needs of river communities.
