Victim in Cairo homicide identified

CAIRO, Ill. -- The victim of a Cairo homicide that occurred at 3:45 p.m. Sunday has been identified as Vernon K. Haynes, 27, of Charleston, Missouri, according to the Illinois State Police.

Cairo police requested assistance from troopers and the Crime Scene Services Command to the Cavalier Club in Cairo.

Cape Girardeau Coroner John Clifton said the victim was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center, where he died in the emergency room. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, a news release said. The investigation is ongoing.
