DEXTER -- Able to shake off a couple rough stretches, the Dexter Lady Bearcats pushed their current winning streak to three matches Tuesday with a straight-set sweep of visiting Cape Central, 25-10 and 25-15.

"I thought the girls played well the first game," Dexter head coach Carmen Morgan said. "We didn't play well the second game. We didn't do what we should have done. I don't know if we came out just a little bit lackadaisical, but there wasn't much focus."

Taking the first seven straight points to start the night, the Lady Bearcats never trailed in the first and only allowed the Lady Tigers to rally for more than two points once.

That was when, trailing 9-1, Cape Central went on to capture the next three points and close back within five.

A kill from senior Jessica Lindsey gave the Lady Bearcats the ball back, however, and stellar serving from freshman Kristen Garrison ensured the set was never in question.

Garrison rattled off six aces during a stretch where she guided Dexter to nine straight points. A serve into the net stopped her streak.

The run put the Lady Bearcats up 18-4 and they worked their way up to set point, 24-8 before a couple missed kills kept the game alive. One final missed serve by the Lady Tigers closed out the set for Dexter.

Cape Central wouldn't go as quietly the second time around with a 3-1 start giving the Lady Tigers their first lead of the night. They went ahead by as much as 9-6 before the Lady Bearcats were forced to call a timeout and regroup.

"We don't want to (get too comfortable)," Morgan said of their rough start. "You can't let a team have two, three or four points on you in a row. Because this game of rally scoring isn't like the old (system) where you could come back as easy.

"That's one of our goals. One sideout doesn't hurt us, but we want the next ball. There wasn't anything keeping us from it. We were doing it to ourselves pretty much."

Sarah Boerboom came out of the break with her second straight ace for Cape Central to give her team its biggest advantage of the night at 10-6.

It didn't take long for the Lady Bearcats to regain their form and a 5-1 run tied the game. After remaining tied at 12-12 Dexter put the match away on a 13-3 run that was aided by a pair of aces from senior Shyann Jines and two kills from Lindsey.

"We pretty much made the mistakes ourselves," Morgan said of the set. "They were serving a couple hard balls that were hitting our corners and we weren't adjusting to those."

On the match, Lindsey racked up seven of the Lady Bearcats' 15 kills. Jines added five kills to the cause. Garrison had two kills and junior Julia Hahn contributed a kill as well.

Garrison led the team in aces, finishing with eight on the match and six in the first set alone.

"She had a good night serving," Morgan said of Garrison. "I tell them three to one ratio, where if you hit three you can miss one. She served well and hit some good balls as well. I thought she had a good game all the way around."

Now at 3-1, Dexter will take part in this weekend's Notre Dame Volleyballfest at Notre Dame High School. The Lady Bearcats will see four to five matches over the two days with their pool consisting of St. Pius, Cape Central and Ste. Genevieve.

They'll open up a doubleheader Friday against St. Pius at 5:45 p.m., followed by a rematch with Cape Central at 7:15 p.m.

Dexter wraps up pool play Saturday against Ste. Genevieve at 11:45 a.m. and will look to be one of the two teams to advance out of their pool and into championship bracket play later Saturday afternoon.
