CAPE GIRARDEAU - A Charleston man will spend 15 years in federal prison for robbing a bank.

Deidrick Reed, 26, was sentenced to concurrent sentences of 96 months on one felony count of making a false bomb threat and one felony count of armed bank robbery. Reed also received a consecutive sentence of 84 months for using, carrying and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He appeared Monday before United States District Judge John A. Ross.

At his plea in June, Reed admitted that on the morning of Dec. 12, 2013, he and an accomplice made a call to the Charleston Department of Public Safety claiming there was a bomb at all three local schools. Reed's call resulted in the evacuation of the elementary, junior and senior high schools in Charleston.

While law enforcement officers were responding to the schools, Reed and his accomplice robbed the Citizens Bank of Charleston of $29,701.09.
