NEW MADRID -- Ryan Eddy will be sworn in Oct. 2 as the New Madrid County R-1 School Board's newest member.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Board Offices at New Madrid County Central High School.

Eddy was selected to replace Jason Redden, who resigned in August. He was one of four candidates interviewed by the School Board for the position, which he will fill until April, when voters will elect someone to serve the final year of the three-year term.

In his application to serve on the Board, Eddy, the father of two children who attended New Madrid Elementary School, said he believed that "the academic and social education of children is one of the most important responsibilities of a community. I would like to be a part of the team that leads the district as it works to accomplish this goal."

The county executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency at New Madrid, Eddy previously served as a research specialist with the University of Missouri Delta Center and was involved in the family farming business.

Eddy has already set some lofty goals for the R-1 District.

"My vision is that our district will always provide the educational and social foundation necessary for students to become productive members of society, and our district will continue to be recognized as one of the outstanding districts in the state of Missouri," he said.

Eddy's wife, Renea, is a teacher in the R-1 School District. In addition to his work, he also serves as Cub Scout den leader, Youth League sports coach and is a deacon for the New Madrid Church of Christ, where he is responsible for coordinating all Bible classes and youth leadership programs.
