SIKESTON -- Sikeston High School students and their parents will have the opportunity to learn more about what they will face throughout high school and beyond during the second annual Plan 4 Success Night.

Set to begin at 6 p.m. Monday in the high school cafeteria, parents and students in grades 9-12 will choose from various informational sessions to attend.

"There will be 10 different topics presented in carousel format either related to success in high school or college," said said Kim Thornbrough, senior guidance counselor at Sikeston High School. "The parents will be able to choose three topics based on the topics that are the most interesting to them and the current grade level their child is in and hear the information presented on those three topics."

There will be a different presenter for each topic, and each session lasts 25 minutes, the counselor noted.

This year's topics include: college admissions, how to pay for college, college athletics/recruiting, what every freshman and sophomore should know, everything to know about the ACT, Sikeston Career and Technology Center, Edmodo (tablet application) for parents, AP/honors courses, A-Plus program and child's college readiness.

"For example, as a junior and senior, you are getting closer to college and may want to look at college admissions and how to pay for college. Or if you're an athlete, you may want to come to a college recruiting session," Thornbrough said.

Attendees will bring their schedule sheet they received in advance to school that night so they will know where to go, Thornbrough said.

"We will begin the night in the cafeteria with introductions and any last-minute announcements. You will be dismissed from the cafeteria to the Math and Science Center where the sessions will be held," Thornbrough said.
