SIKESTON -- A Florida company was awarded the contract for two projects for the city parks division.

The two bids, which were awarded during the Council's regular monthly briefing session Monday, are both are time-sensitive and "projects that we have re-bid," according to Jiggs Moore, parks division director.

The low bid on both projects came back too high much higher than the estimated cost on the initial round, Moore said.

Gulf Coast Sports of Crystal River, Fla., a company that does this type of work "all over the country," Moore said, offered the low bid for painting bleacher supports at VFW Stadium this time.

The bid of $14,010 from Gulf Coast Sport is within $1,000 of estimated cost for the project, according to Moore, while the sole bid in the first round was over the estimated by about $30,000.

Gulf Coast Sports' offer of $45,820 was also the low bid submitted for the replacement of four backstops at the Sports Complex.

Both bids were rejected the first time around as the lowest came in $11,000 higher than the estimated project cost of $44,400.

"This time we received four bids," Moore said.

In other business during Monday's meeting:

* Council members approved a 2015 Domestic Violence Surcharge funding request from the House of Refuge for Abused and Battered Women.

The House of Refuge is "the sole provider in the city at this time," said Linda Lowes, director of governmental services.
