"Dunkin' with Dads (And Other Important Men)" featured some time for fathers and their children to enjoy open-gym basketball Nov. 20 at Charleston Middle School. The event was for Charleston R-1 students in grades prekindergarten through eighth and their fathers or father figures. According to parent liaison B.J. Babb, the well-attended event featured four "Blue Jay Classes" held throughout the school. These stations included a talk given by Principal Frank Ellis on his experience as a former Blue Jays basketball player, a review of the district's reading programs, some team building activities and encouragement aimed at fathers. The CHS Cheerleaders and school mascot Billy Blue led cheers, gave away some Blue Jay merchandise and took pictures with guests. The event was a product of Title 1 Parent Involvement and CMS Parent Involvement.
