Malden man killed in one-car accident

MALDEN - A Malden man was killed when his vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on Christmas Day.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported at 5:50 p.m. Thursday on Dunklin County Road 222, two miles south of Malden, Darrell J. McDowell, 45, was driving eastbound when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway. According to the report, the vehicle failed to negotiated a curve, striking a utility pole.

McDowell was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:22 p.m. by Dunklin County Coroner James Powell. This was the 59th fatality reported in the Troop E area for 2014.

A driver received moderate injuries in an accident at 12:42 p.m. Thursday on County Road 541, one mile east of Bloomfield.
