R-6 school reaps benefits of MoLEAD
SIKESTON -- A Sikeston R-6 elementary school is one of a few Southeast Missouri school districts to take part in a national instructional leadership program.
In 2013, Missouri began offering a new professional development program for school leaders aimed at raising student achievement called Missouri Leadership for Excellence, Achievement and Development, or MoLEAD.
Southeast Elementary in Sikeston was among the schools provided with the opportunity to go through the state-tailored approach to the National Institute for School Leadership's program, which teaches participants how to lead more effectively, strengthen classroom instruction and in turn increase student achievement.
Southeast Elementary Principal, Alecia Jordan, along with Southeast Elementary teacher Katie Jenkins and reading coach Sandy Rhinehart participated in MoLEAD's first cadre.
On Wednesday Ashley Tanksley, Assistant Principal for Southeast Elementary, along with Southeast teacher Sarah Sloan will complete the second cadre of the 15-month program and then participate in a graduation ceremony Thursday.
