Portageville Scholar Bowl Team Competes in Districts

Peyton Bullock, son of Jeff and Tracy Bullock, and Johanne Karizamimba, son of Taremba and Corinne Karizamimba, were named to the All District Team by the Missouri Academic Coaches Association. To be named to the All District Team, a student must be one of the top scorers in district play.

The Portageville High School Scholar Bowl team competed in the Class 2 District 1 competition on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Bernie High School. Scholar Bowl is a MSHSAA sponsored activity in which teams compete in an academic competition. A Scholar Bowl match has four quarters of ten point timed questions in the areas of science, mathematics, communication arts, social studies, fine arts/performing arts, and miscellaneous (current events, sports, industrial arts, etc.). Teams of four players compete against each other. Scholar Bowl season starts at the end of October and runs to the middle of April when post season play starts. Portageville competes in regular season play against Campbell, Caruthersville, Dexter, Hayti, Holcomb, Kennett, and Malden.

Members of the Portageville High School Varsity Scholar Bowl team are Dylan Alexander, Kristin Britt, Peyton Bullock, Salena Forrester, Bayleigh Foster, Johanne Karizamimba, Alex Layton, Amanda Moody, and Brady Scherer. Members of the Junior Varsity Scholar Bowl are Bryant Dawson, Connor Eidson, Savannah Forrester, Kailynn Mayberry, S.J. McMillen, Katie Miller, and Kayla Wallace.

Schools in Class 2 District 1 are Bernie, Hayti, Holcomb, Malden, Portageville, and South Pemiscot. The Portageville Scholar Bowl team defeated Bernie in the preliminary round of district competition 260-250 in overtime to advance to the championship game against Malden. Portageville fell to Malden in the championship game 190-240. Portageville received the Class 2 District Second Place plaque following the championship match.
