SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Public Schools Foundation made history on Friday as it awarded a record amount of over $33,000 to 14 Sikeston R-6 teachers.

Members of the Foundation on Friday surprised the Sikeston teachers and their students by visiting their classrooms and presenting them with an oversized check.

Corrie Gordon, an early childhood education teacher at the Sikeston Kindergarten Center, was shocked to see the Foundation members and that big check in her classroom on Friday, but she knew immediately what their presence meant and began jumping up and down with excitement.

"I'm so excited -- so excited," said a shocked Gordon. "The kids will get so much use out of new science exploration station."
