NEW MADRID -- The man accused of killing a store clerk during a robbery will face the death penalty.

New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lawson filed notice with the Circuit Court Wednesday he will seek the death penalty for Deion D. Martin of Parma.

Martin is charged with first degree murder, first degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action for the May 18 robbery at D and L One Stop in Parma. During the robbery, Martin is accused of shooting Brenda Smith in the head and killing her.

Lawson said in the court document, he intends to offer evidence at trial that Martin caused Smith's death "after deliberation upon the matter."
