Longtime fireman's service continues with donations in his memory

PORTAGEVILLE - For nearly four decades, Joe Simmons served as part of the Portageville Volunteer Fire Department. As one of his dying wishes, Simmons wanted to continue to be of service, telling his wife any memorial gifts in his honor should go to the Department he loved.

Simmons died Jan. 9.

Recently, his family had the opportunity to see how the memorial funds and their gift to the Fire Department were put to use. They agreed Simmons would be proud.

"He was very proud of the Fire Department," said Ronnie Simmons, Joe Simmon's son. "He was just one of those guys who always wanted to give back to the community."
