We have to start somewhere

Just read another comment in SpeakOut about your July 12 "Silent Majority." Yes, we silents are to blame for who is in the White House and other offices. And yes, I'm guilty. I didn't like either candidate, so I just didn't vote. Big mistake. I'm sure there were many of us who did that, but I won't be guilty of it again and maybe others have learned their lesson also. I should have at least voted against that Muslim (Obama) who is in office. Doing away with anything symbolic of Christianity, making marriage legal between gays/lesbians, trying to force our minister to perform the ceremony shows he is Muslim regardless of what he says. There is no gray area in the Bible about homosexuality. It is written plain that it is a sin. If they (gays and lesbians) choose this lifestyle (it is chosen because God doesn't make mistakes), then live that way. But don't make it legal and shove it down our throats. Doing away with the Confederate flag and other symbols is also wrong. They are a part of the history of this country. It's where we came from. Every black person in the United States should be thankful for their slave ancestors, otherwise they would have been born in Africa with no chance of progress at all. If they want to sue a country for their wrong doing, sue Africa. They were the ones who sold their ancestors into slavery. I decided not to mail the other letter, but after reading the comment in SpeakOut, I had to write this and mail them both. We all talk about what needs to be done, and it stops with talk. Most of us don't have a clue as to where to start and what to do. Please devote some space in your paper with some names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. Give us some information on what to say or do. Maybe petitions? We have to start somewhere. Help us "silent majority" make a difference before it is too late. I know those of us in the Bootheel are considered redneck idiots, but change has to start somewhere. Remember David in the Bible, a little guy with a slingshot? I am old and probably won't live to see the changes we need. But I have children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren that I hope our country will become a better place for them to live.

Christian schools

Can you tell me why there are two schools in town with almost the same name? This is very confusing to a parent trying to enroll a child. I know SEMO Christian Academy has been here for a long time. I'm not sure about The Christian Academy.

SEMO Christian Academy began in the fall of 1978. It is for preschool and kindergarteners only. They are located at 1440 Ables Road. The Christian Academy opened in 2004 and is for students preschool through 12th grade. They are located at 103 Kathleen, the building which formerly housed Three Rivers Community College.

Thanks for the info

I would like to thank the Standard Democrat for their emergency medical tab that was inserted into one of their papers. It is very important, and pharmacies. I think it will help a lot of people, not just myself. The only thing I see that was left out is about liquefaction after an earthquake, and that's something I would like to know a little bit more about.
