Georgia man killed in I-55 crash in New Madrid County

NEW MADRID -- A Georgia man operating a semi-truck with a car trailer attached was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday in New Madrid County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 10 a.m. at the 43.4 mile-marker on southbound Interstate 55 as motorist Kendall D. Lewis, 57, of Douglasville, Ga., ran his semi-truck and car hauler off the left side of the road, overcorrected, returned to the road, ran off the left side of the road again and struck 44 cable barrier posts.

Lewis was taken by ambulance to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti, where he was pronounced dead at 11:02 a.m. by New Madrid County coroner George DeLisle.
