CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A Charleston man faces felony assault and armed criminal action charges after allegedly shooting another man in the leg.

Desmond Greer, 24, is charged with felony first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon, according to Missouri Case.net. An arraignment is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Wednesday before Judge S. Rob Barker in Mississippi County's Division I Court.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff's Department, an investigation began April 2 when a Mississippi County resident was shot in the lower leg in the city of Wyatt. Deputies responded to the scene and located the victim, who told them he was shot by Greer.

"The victim told deputies that he was approached by Greer while riding his scooter. When he stopped to see what Greer wanted, (Greer) pulled a gun out of his pocket, shooting him in the leg. The victim states that he then fled across a vacant lot but was shot at two more times," said Deputy Marc Tragesser with Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

The victim was flown to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound. Greer fled the scene prior to the deputies' arrival.
