SIKESTON -- Improvements are planned for the high school soccer field thanks to grant funds from the U.S. Soccer Foundation.

The city of Sikeston was awarded a $4,995 grant from the Foundation to fund irrigation improvements and replacements. Sikeston was one of nine organizations nationwide to receive a grant.

"We are very excited to have received this grant to help with the irrigation of the High School Soccer Field," said Dustin Care, Parks and Recreation director. "Soccer has seen continued growth in Sikeston over the past 10 years and that has helped our high school soccer teams become more competitive and remain in the hunt for both district and state titles. Having a quality field to play on represents more than just the High School and the Parks and Recreation Department; it represents the whole Sikeston community."
