Four earn top honor for NMCC Class of 2016

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- New Madrid County Central High School honored four valedictorians at its graduation ceremony conducted at 6:30 p.m. May 10, 2016.

The following have distinguished themselves by maintaining a 4.0 GPA for all eight semesters.

Jordan Mariah Allen is the daughter of Mark and Lisa Allen of New Madrid. She was in the National Honor Society, Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, senior class president and a member of the football and basketball cheer team. Scholarships she received are the MFA Inc. Scholarship, SEMO Electric Cooperative Scholarship, Mary V. Francis Scholarship, William Vest Riley Memorial Scholarship, VFW Post 7183 Scholarship, VFW Auxiliary Scholarship, Southeast Missouri State University's University Scholarship and Residence Life Leadership Award, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and is an honor graduate. She will attend Southeast Missouri State University, majoring in pre-law.

Matelyn Jane Bolen

The daughter of Matthew and Keeley Bolen of Sikeston, Matelyn Jane Bolen is a member of the NMCC Band, serving as drum major for two years, FCA, wrestling manager, Student Council, National Honor Society, National Honor Society Academic Team (Varsity), BETA and Gold Renaissance member. An active member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, she is both the piano accompanist and assistant piano player for the worship leader. She also participates in church camp (Camp Garwood) and babysits.The scholarships that she received are the SEMO Electric Cooperative Scholarship, Big Prairie Jaycees Scholarship, Beth Cross Memorial Scholarship, Southeast Missouri State University's Regent's Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and is an honor student. She will attend Southeast Missouri State University, majoring in library sciences to pursue a career as an elementary librarian.

Phillip Wesley Stegman, the son of John and Jamie Stegman of New Madrid, is a member of the BETA Club and National Honor Society. He works at the New Madrid Pharmacy. Scholarships he received are: the Johnny Davis Memorial Scholarship, Bank of New Madrid Scholarship, VFW Post 7183 Scholarship, VFW Auxiliary Scholarship, New Madrid Mason Lodge 108 Scholarship, Dr. Theerawatt Pattaropong Scholarship, St. Louis College of Pharmacy Academic Achievement Scholarship, First Lt. Amos Camden Riley Bock Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and is an honor graduate. He plans to attend St. Louis College of Pharmacy and major in pharmacy.

Erica Dannielle Townsend is the daughter of Todd and Dodie Townsend of Lilbourn. She was the senior class secretary, a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of Future Business Leaders of America, Skills USA member, Beta Club treasurer and Renaissance member as well as on the Honor Roll. She was also on the softball and volleyball team and is an active member of the Lilbourn First Church of God. The scholarships she received are the CTA Scholarship, VFW Post 7183 Scholarship, VFW Auxiliary Scholarship, Southeast Missouri State University's Regent's Scholarship, Missouri A+ Scholarship, George Washington Carver Top 10 Percent Award and is an honor graduate. She plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University.
