Man jailed for trying to sneak drugs into jail

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo - Formal charges are pending against a man who attempted to sneak drugs into jail.

Caruthersville police arrested a 29-year-old Steele resident on Saturday for shoplifting. According to Caruthersville City Marshal Tony Jones, after transporting the suspect to the Pemiscot County Justice Center, officers found contraband hidden inside his boots.

The man is in custody awaiting the filing of formal charges by the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney's offices for stealing, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and delivery or possession of a controlled substance at a county jail, Jones reported.
