“The Last Days”

Friday, March 3, 2017

If you are a serious student of the Scriptures, at some point you will have to wrestle with the Scriptures that deal with eschatological themes (future times). Regarding this category of theology, you will need to have some explanation regarding the practical implications of what is called the Rapture, the end times gathering of God’s people. At the center of this issue is: How do you explain that millions of people cannot be accounted for? Second: What will society’s reaction be to all these mysterious disappearances? When I was in seminary, I didn’t have what I thought was an adequate answer when faced with these questions. I wasn’t old enough in my studies to have an adequate answer and as a result, my spiritual vision wasn’t far reaching enough. What I saw was superficial and only explained things such as: an insurance industry imploding as it sought to process literally millions of death claims from around the world – deaths that didn’t have a body to support the claims of millions of loved ones regarding the mysterious disappearance of a relative.

Throughout the 1990s, several earthquakes occurred that registered high on the Richter scale. The media flooded the air ways with scenes of the hopelessness and suffering of the victims. Weeks after the earthquake, the victims grappled with their situation: the loss of homes, property, and loved ones buried beneath a mountain of rubble. Dreams vanished. Eventually, the earth moving machines arrived, sent by the political leaders of the nation. The message: It’s time to move on with our lives. Herein, lies the answer to the two eschatological questions. According to the Book of Revelation, there is coming a time of catastrophic violence upon the planet. In line with this biblical truth is the geological evidence of earth sitting on thirteen or fourteen “plates” that move from time to time to relieve stress on the planet. I now believe that during the end times, in the period known as the Great Tribulation, one great movement of the plates, or a series of closely connected quakes will occur, causing cosmic destruction on a level mankind has never seen, which will cover the disappearance of literally millions of people.

On January 12, a major earthquake (7.0 magnitude) occurred in Haiti. In the first 36 hours, at least another 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater were recorded. As of February 12, an estimated three million people were affected by the quake; the Haitian government reports that between 217,000 and 230,000 people had been identified as dead, an estimated 300,000 injured, and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless. The death toll is expected to rise. Haiti is a tiny nation compared to the nations registered with the UN in terms of economic capability and land size. Now think of eight or nine of the large plated moving at once producing a “universal” quake. The destruction of property and the loss of life will be unimaginable. Like in Haiti today, eventually the earth moving machines will arrive, sent by the Antichrist’s political government. Like the leaders in Haiti, the leaders of the world will announce that they embrace the hurt of the victims, but that they also must direct the recovery efforts of their nation – life must go on and we must move on as a nation. With that, the rapture of the “last days Christians” will easily be hidden from the sight of a Satan empowered world system that is straining as it copes with a world full of physical destruction.

As of March 8, 2010, a major earthquake has occurred in Chili and Turkey, with deadly aftershocks, killing hundreds. I’m not a prophet, nor the son of a prophet, merely a student of the Scriptures. In my studies, for Genesis through Revelation, I witness that God has told us repeatedly that: He is the Creator of the universe; He is in control of human history; He has a plan that He is in the process of carrying out; and His plan will not be thwarted by the actions of men or fallen angels (demons).

There is only one way to escape this destruction. To do so you need a savior. The Bible teaches that there is only one Savior by which we can be saved, and that is none other than Jesus Christ. This leaves out Buddha, Allah, Zeus, Dianna, and all others. If you haven’t called upon Jesus to save you and to be your Savior, simply bow and pray to Him and ask to be saved, to be forgiven of your sins, and ask Him to give you a new life where He is LORD. May His grace be upon you.
