EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Samuel Morgan "Sam" Barker, 70, of East Prairie, died Jan. 5, 2017.

Born Aug. 17, 1946, in Cairo, Ill., to the late Ben and Opal Morgan Barker, he was a self-employed farmer and avid outdoorsman. He loved his family, friends and making duck calls. He was an active member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie.

On April 21, 1967, in Cardwell, he married Silvey Ann Jones, who survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Honorable Rob and Sandy Barker of East Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, Annie and Lt. Commander Brian White of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Zach Barker, Savanna Barker Norman, Samuel McMurray, Clay McMurray and Anna K. White.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Blaine Barker, Bill Barker and Randy Barker; and three sisters, Eugenia Adkison, Mera Ben Bess and Carolyn Smithson.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at the First Christian Church in East Prairie, with Nathan Claycomb, pastor, and Martin Lucas, officiating.

Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie is in charge of arrangements.
