Fire at CVS

Thursday, April 12, 2018

A trash can caught fire at CVS Pharmacy, 120 S. Main, in Sikeston at just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, causing dark smoke to drift across the intersection at Main and Malone. According to Capt. Rick Rapert, who oversees Sikeston Department of Public Safety’s Fire Division, the origin of the fire was in a trash can that was sitting just outside of the front entryway. “It is believed the fire was accidental in nature and the only damage was to the trash can and minor to the front of the building.” The fire had been extinguished by someone using a fire extinguisher prior to the arrival of the fire trucks, he said. “Fire crews checked the reminder of the building for damage. Light smoke had made its way into the front entryway foyer, and fire crews utilized fans to remove the smoke,” Rapert said. No injuries were reported, and the business remained open after the incident.
