Cape Girardeau police officers investigated a shooting early Tuesday that injured two people in in the 500 block of South Pacific Street.

The shooting occurred at an apartment house about 12:10 a.m. Tuesday. Two victims were taken to Southeast Hospital, said Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Joey Hann.

Hann said the hospital indicated the victims' injuries were not life-threatening.

Hann said several people had gathered in front of the apartment house shortly after midnight Tuesday when an assailant or assailants approached from the back and began shooting.

One of the apartments then was broken into, and shootings continued inside, Hann said.

Hann said police initially thought there was a third victim in the attack, but the person was injured in an unrelated incident.
