Teen fatally wounded in shooting

CHARLESTON, Mo. - Police are investigating a fatal shooting.

At approximately 12:08 p.m. Friday, the Charleston Department of Public Safety received calls of a person shot in the the 500 block of Sy Williams (South Elm). At the scene responding officers found an unresponsive male, later identified as Jacquon Smith, 18, of Charleston, with a gunshot wound.

Charleston DPS Director Robert Hearnes reported Smith died at the scene.

Hearnes requested anyone with information concerning this crime to contact the Charleston DPS at (573) 683-3737.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available, Hearnes stated in a news release.
