Scott County transit unveils new vehicle wrap

SIKESTON -- Riding in the Scott County Transit System's newest van not only will get where you need to go but also might remind you what you need to add to your grocery list. The van features photos of fruits, vegetables and meats along with the logo for Food Giant Supermarkets Inc., which donated matching funds needed to purchase the new vehicle. According to Marilyn Schlosser, executive director of the SCTS, federal funding covers 80 percent of the vehicle's cost with the local entity having to provide 20 percent. She added Food Giant's donation shows its support for the local community and the transportation service. Steven Malone, assistant secretary/ treasurer for the company, noted this is the second time the company has provided a match for a vehicle. He called it a good way for the company to get its name out in the community as the van travels throughout the county as well as to Cape Girardeau. Schlosser emphasized the system is a public transportation system. "It is not just for the elderly or the handicapped," she pointed out. "It is for any residents of Scott County." Providing curb-to-curb service for citizens tends to rack up the miles pretty quickly on the vehicles, Schlosser said. The vans are replaced when they reach 100,000 miles and the SCTS will soon replace another vehicle in its fleet she said, adding she hopes to find a donor who will provide the local match and add their wrap around the vehicle. Residents wanting to use the Scott County Transit System's transportation services can call 573-472-3030 to arrange a pick-up time.
