NEW MADRID -- A Sikeston man and Kewanee woman face charges for selling drugs to the Mississippi County sheriff at a park in New Madrid County.

Jerry M. Perkey, 33, of Sikeston and Katherine M. Morin, 31, of Kewanee are charged with felony distribution of a controlled substance in a protected location, according to online court records.

According to the probable cause statement provided by the New Madrid County Circuit Court Clerk's Office, on Sunday Sgt. Michael Bixler, a deputy with the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, received a call from Mississippi County Sheriff Cory Hutcheson who said he had been informed Perkey had been given $200 for about one-fourth of a gram of methamphetamine and that Perkey was going to go deliver the methamphetamine to a location in Mississippi County. Hutcheson said Perkey told him he did not feel comfortable bringing the meth to Mississippi County and requested they meet at the the city park in Matthews. Hutcheson told Bixler that Perkey was en route to the park to meet him and described Perkey's car.

Upon arriving at the park, Bixler said Hutcheson had detained Perkey and Morin and then turned over a small, plastic bag with a clear, rocky substance. Hutcheson said the bag was handed to Perkey from Morin while inside the vehicle. The substance weighed .3 grams and field-tested positive for meth. While checking Perkey's wallet, Bixler located six $20-bills with the serial numbers matching all six of the $20-bills recorded earlier by Hutcheson.

Perkey and Morin were transported to Pemiscot County Jail, where Perkey remained as of Wednesday with bond set at $50,000 cash or surety. Morin's bond was also set at $50,000 cash or surety, and she posted bond.

Both were scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. today before Judge Joshua D. Underwood in New Madrid County.
