SIKESTON -- R. J. Fountain Jr. points out a play set he wants to Sikeston Department of Public Safety officer Daniel Adams at Walmart on Monday. Fountain was one of a group of children from Matthews, Lilbourn, New Madrid, East Prairie and Sikeston who had the opportunity to "Shop With a Cop." Approximately two dozen children from Lilbourn Elementary School, Matthews Elementary School, New Madrid Elementary School and from East Prairie took part in the fourth annual Shop with a Cop event on Monday at Walmart. The goal according to organizers is to provide the children with an unforgettable Christmas experience while promoting a positive rapport with law enforcement. After the children chose their gifts they were taken back to the New Madrid Public Safety Center where they were treated to pizza and officers helped with any toy assembly. Taking part were the New Madrid Police Department, New Madrid County R-1 resource officers, New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Department of Corrections and State Fire Marshal's Office.
