You vote will help set our nation's path

Saturday, November 5, 2016

Well, here we are. The countdown to election day is now measured in hours. And regardless of what you may hear or what you may read, the outcome of Tuesday's presidential election is still in doubt.

Let me stop right here and thank you for reading this column during this election season. Like all of you, I have passionate opinions on the direction of this great nation and I fully appreciate what is at stake on Tuesday.

I have always said that I don't pretend to sway any votes with my ramblings but at the very least, I hope I have opened avenues of discussion and debate.

Having said that, I stand on the verge of this all-important election looking for any positive developments that might occur as a result of Tuesday's vote.

You know my thoughts. I see a new direction filled with promise if Donald Trump is elected and I see an expansion of a declining nation under a Hillary Clinton watch.

But the one single positive that is inevitable come Tuesday is the end of the reign of Barack Obama.

Richard Nixon once famously said that his election loss in 1962 would mean members of the media would not have him to kick around any more.

Here is my prediction. We will truly learn more about Barack Obama in the years ahead than we have known in the past. And those revelations will give the nation ample opportunity to kick him around just a little longer.

As much as I distrust Hillary Clinton and how much I truly believe her policies will continue the ruination of this country, it will be extremely refreshing to see the Obama regime exit the White House.

Of course, now we'll simply trade the race card for the gender card when someone disagrees with the latest ploy to come from the White House. Yet even still, I cannot imagine anyone can compare to the damage and destruction to our national fabric that Barack Obama managed to provide.

Given the conservative bent of our region, I often feel like I'm preaching to the choir. I want to reach out to fellow Americans in Ohio and Pennsylvania and Florida and beyond where the outcome is far less certain.

I want the few remaining undecided voters to honestly consider just how bad this current president has been and just how bad a continuation of his warped policies would be for this nation.

For perhaps the first time in my life, I have strong doubts about national unity regardless of the outcome. The passions are too high and the direction of the two candidates too different.

And once again, I lay the blame for this division squarely at the feet of Barack Obama. His destruction of this nation is not yet complete but a Clinton presidency offers the prospect of additional decline and division.

Few things in our republic are as important or precious as the right to vote. On Tuesday, exercise that essential element and cast your ballot.

And when the dust settles, we pray to God to watch over our nation and protect us from evil forces that threaten the future for our children and grandchildren.
