Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority adds Cary Harbison as assistant director
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Cary G. Harbison has been named the assistant director at the SEMO Port (Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority) by its Board of Commissioners, taking effect Sept. 1.
For the past 20 years, Harbison has been a civil engineer at Bowen Engineering and Surveying in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Previously he served three years with Casler Engineering in Jacksonville, Ill. He received his BS in civil engineering in 1995 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later obtained his professional engineer certification.
While at Bowen Engineering, his work involved projects at the Port as well as many other customers. Projects included design and construction inspection of roads, railroad tracks, harbors, utilities and other facilities. Bowen Engineering will continue to perform engineering and surveying work for the Port.
As assistant director at SEMO Port, he will report to executive director Dan Overbey. Harbison's duties will include work in areas of management including marketing, finance, leases, grants and planning. He will have similarly broad responsibilities in work for the SEMO Port Railroad, which is owned and operated by SEMO Port.
The Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority was created in 1975 by Scott County and Cape Girardeau County. The Port's harbor opened in 1990 and the Semo Port Railroad started in 1994. Today the six industries at the Port and their customers move over 1.5 million tons of products annually using barge, truck, and rail transportation. The Port develops and leases land to customers engaged in moving large volumes of freight by barge and rail.
