CHARLESTON, Mo. — Charlie William “Bill” Brashers Jr., 89, died May 11, 2018, at his home in Charleston.

Born Feb. 10, 1929, in Mississippi County, son of the late Bill Brashers Jr. and Ruby Hurley Brashers, he had lived in Charleston most of his life and had been employed with Missouri Utilities Company for 36 years until his retirement in June 1983.  In 1954, he helped charter the Southside Baptist Church in Charleston where he was the oldest living original member and had served as a deacon.

On Oct. 6, 1945, he married Geneva Vernon Williams, who preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 2009.

Survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bill and Judy Brashers of Silva, Terry and Carol Brashers of Nixa and Jasper Brashers of Springfield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Travis Watson of Charleston and Genella Rayman of Springfield; one brother, Charlie Brashears of Miner; four sisters, Lucille Hayden, Sue Redding and Rosie Brashears of St. Louis and Linda Clayton of Pekin, Ill.; and 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Ivaleen Bamper, Carol Thompson, Melba Groves, Beverly McCutchen, Reta Thompson, Jack Brashears and Paula Kay Brashears; a son-in-law, Ernest Rayman; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Monday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. His son-i-law, the Rev. Travis Watson and the Rev. Steve Johnson, pastor of the Victory Baptist Church in East Prairie, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Bill Evans, Rocky Walker, Al Clarkson, Lowell Nally, Bill Shankle, Harold McClendon and Larry Borders.
