MARSTON, Mo. — Law enforcement officers are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an attempted armed robber.

New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens reported a man attempted to rob a woman at gun point Tuesday evening in the parking lot at the Pilot Truck Stop.

According to Stevens, the suspect was paying for a $10-fuel purchase as the woman was cashing a payroll check with a cashier.

“He observed her cash the check and followed her out,” Stevens said. “As she was getting into her vehicle, he put a handgun to her head and said: ‘give me your money.’”

The woman refused, the sheriff said.

A man, who was in the vehicle, shouted at the suspect. A verbal confrontation began and the suspect then pointed the gun at the man in the vehicle.

When other individuals began exiting the business, the man fled in his vehicle.

Stevens said the suspect was last seen going west over the Interstate 55 overpass. Further description of the vehicle was not available; however, Stevens noted the suspect was wearing a Memphis Grizzlies ball cap.
