SIKESTON — Jewell Barnhart, 76, died Sept. 26, 2018, at East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born May 25, 1942, in Dover, Tenn., daughter of the late John and Mary Luffman Austin, she was a homemaker and member of Sanctuary Church in Sikeston.

On Feb. 4, 1964, she married Johnie Barnhart, who preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2002.

Survivors include: one son, Leonard Barnhart of Lilbourn; one daughter, Carol Maddox of Matthews; six brothers, Kenneth Austin of Sorento, Ill., Larry Austin, Gary “Bill” Austin and Marvin Austin of Clarksville, Tenn., Roger Austin of the state of Nebraska and James Lyle Austin of Donnellson, Ill.; and four sisters, Lois Lupardus of Granite City, Ill., and Polly Wells, Elsie Toler and Shirley Jean Smart of Clarksville; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Melvin Edward Barnhart; one sister, Francis Williams; and two brothers, Joseph Allen Austin, and Lester Austin.

Visitation will be from noon until service time at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Sanctuary Church in Sikeston. The Rev. Rick Lovall, pastor of Sanctuary Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in McGee Chapel Cemetery near Glen Allen.
