CONRAN, Mo. — Howard Crockett Tillman, 81, died Dec. 1, 2018, at his home in Conran.

Born Sept. 24, 1937, in Steele, son of the late Lydia Crockett Tillman and Howard Tillman, he grew up in Lilbourn and graduated from Lilbourn High School. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated from Memphis State University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and business administration. He was a certified public accountant for 30 years, working for for the national firm Alexander Grant, branch manager for Associated Capital in Meridian, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn., and auditor of New Madrid County. He was appointed New Madrid County’s first county auditor by Gov. Mel Carnahan and was a Member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants/ Missouri State Society of Certified Public Accounts, Optimist Club/Kiwanis Club and Alpha Tau Omega. A member of the Portageville Methodist Church, he was a 32nd-degree Mason and worked with several civic organizations in the communities he lived. 

On June 5, 1960, in Portageville, he married Brenda Pikey, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Long (Troy) of Lebanon, Tenn.; one son, Sam Tillman of Portageville; one sister, Mary Ann Buczek of Toledo, Ohio; special friend, Margaret Partee of Portageville; and three grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Tillman and Johnny Tillman.

Services begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Portageville with the Rev. Barron S. Willer officiating.

Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Danny Hayes, Derek Hayes, Lafton Hayes, Michael Rone, Kevin Rone and Trey Rone.

DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville is in charge of arrangements.
