Hazardous material training

Thursday, April 25, 2019

Region E Homeland Security Response Team members participated in hazardous materials operations training Wednesday at the Sikeston Power Plant. The team simulated a chlorine leak at the location to give the team hands-on training with mitigation of the hazard. According to team members, the team relies on its FAA Part 107 UAV Pilots to deploy UAV’s (drones) for recognition and identification of the hazard prior to sending personnel into the hazardous unknown condition. The team also trained on new rescue equipment recently purchased, the “CMC Arizona Vortex.” This portable equipment allows rescuers to elevate rope above edges, entries or other obstructions and is ideal in edge-mitigation for cliffs, confined spaces, mines and other industrial rescue operations.
